Seeing this photo reminded me of my experience.

That night at a parking lot, myself and another man, a fellow protester, were the only people there. Teams of riot police rushed in to surround us, shouting abuse at us. It was so loud that I could not hear clearly what was being said, but they all looked at me as if I had killed their families.

In my panic, I failed to answer a question posed by a female riot police officer. Seeing this, a male riot police officer yelled at me in intimidation “Why didn’t you answer the question that Madam just asked you? Do I have to take you to San Uk Ling for you to answer the question?”

The female officer who first asked the question then said into my ear “When you get taken in, I won’t know what the colleagues taking over will do to you.”

The next day, while sitting on a metal chair awaiting my third full body search, I was joined by two other girls who were also arrested the night before. One of the plainclothes officer there tried to make conversation with the duty officer, saying “We caught three female roaches?” The duty officer replied “Yep, feel free to rape whoever takes your fancy”

This sent chills down my spine.

A good friend of mine was arrested the other day and taken into a police vehicle. The police said to her “Do you believe when I say that I’ll put some rocks in your rucksack and toss you into the sea?”

————————————

The police would casually say these kind of things, because when they are in their environment, they are a bunch of barbaric monsters who are a law unto themselves. They can do and say whatever they like without any consequences.

Fellow protesters live each day in fear of their lives. This is not exaggerated.
